We started the afternoon after getting into our costumes by having everyone's hair and make-up done (or at least everyone who wanted it done) courtesy of our Marvel College team, led by KG, who is our board president and the mother of one of our Youth singers. Then, the singers were free to head downstairs for some fun with toys, books, and watching the movie Madagascar!
After that, we came back up to the hall and sang for the MC team, then got organized for Circle of Life. After a few more moments, we were ready to head downstairs and take our positions for the opening of the show.
The first act ROCKED. I think "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was an especially big hit judging by the applause. At intermission, both the singers and the audience all got cookies and juice. Then, the Minis and Littles got to sit up at the front of the audience on Mini- and Little-sized chairs while the Children and Youth got into place for their entrance in the second half.
Mama Mary told her "Ubuntu" story (which, as far as I know, is a true story) to kick off the next half of the show, and I have to say, I was very impressed with how the Youth and Children did on their alone pieces. The gumboot dance was a huge hit, too! Okay, let's be honest, the whole show was a huge hit.
Many thanks to those who helped strike the set and get the church back to normal for their Sunday service, and of course to those who helped during the show.
And finally, we extend a fond farewell to RJ, who has been a helper longer than I have (and that's really saying something!). She is not only graduating high school this year, she is also moving away. We wish her much luck and love, and thank her deeply for her many years of excellent help with the Minis and Littles!
